DCNR Provides A
Fire Break Around Village
As previously agreed to, DCNR has completed a small timber operation around the south and west borders of Black Forest Village . This will serve as a fire break encirclement for that portion of the community. The object is to provide added protection for the Village should a large forest fire approach by reducing the fuel loading, and also by offering a lane from which fire apparatus can attack the fire. DCNR agreed to this project in cooperation with the Black Forest Village 's Firewise Program.

A DCNR gate has been erected at the Route. 44 entrance. The fire break will remain closed to vehicle, snowmobile and ATV traffic, but may be used by individuals for walking enjoyment. The adjoining property owners are encouraged to clear any dead or dying wood, and remaining debris for fire wood. A fire wood permit is required on State Forest Lands by DCNR.
Future DCNR plans call for additional brush clearing to reduce the fire loading, and spreading a stone base for easier fire vehicle access. Occasionally the fire break will be inspected to keep it clear of any fallen limbs or trees. Other trails around Black Forest Village will also be cleared. |
