Members of BFFC Attend Pump Training at Cross Fork
Chief Barry Fritzinger at Kettle Creek Hose Company invited local fire companies to joint them in Pump Training on May 19th and 20th. Four members from Black Forest Fire Company participated.
The course was taught by Chief Jay Young, former Chief at Lock Haven, and who now serves as an Instructor for the Pennsylvania Fire Academy.
Four main steams out of one pond will put out almost any fire.
The course demonstrated the proper method of transferring the truck from road and placing it in the pump mode. The students gained knowledge in pump theory, and actual operation of the transfer valve, and in drafting. They gained an understanding of the gauges on the pump panel, and in pumping from hydrants, or other sources of water. They learned how to prevent, or correct cavitation, and how to maintain flow and pressure requirements.
A fine lunch was served each day by the Ladies Auxiliary at Kettle Creek Hose.
