The New Rescue Trailer Is Under Construction and Will Soon Join Our Fleet

Chief Ray Tomori has announce that Black Forest Fire Company's new Rescue Trailer is currently under construction at Transport Designs in Montoursville, PA, and it is expected to join Station 36's fleet of vehicles sometime in June of 2008. The Chief states that the Trailer will consolidate all of the Station's rescue equipment and Hazmat supplies into one vehicle, and free up a lot of over crowded space on all three of the trucks. It will contribute to much more efficient operations, and allow quicker response with fewer staff members.

Framing for the new seven foot high Rescue Trailer is started at Transport Design.

The Rescue Trailer was designed by Assistant Chief Tom Osborn, Steve Mattie, the Owner/President of Transport Designs, and the Transport Design working staff. Black Forest Fire Company wanted to award the contract to a local firm, and found that Transport Design offered the talent and cooperation that was needed to construct a technically correct piece of equipment
that was sturdy enough to hold up under the rigors of the fire service, and the rough terrain of northern Lycoming County. Assistant Chief Osborn stated that the level of cooperation and effort that has been received by Transport Designs' people has been nothing short of excellent.

The Trailer will contain it's own electrical module with a 4,000 watt portable generator, power receptacles, a distribution panel, D.C. power, and electrical tools such as a saws-all, and lighting, including telescopic scene lights.

It will also support a Hydraulic Power Module which will slide out and have redundant Hurst gasoline powered units and hoses for hydraulic power for the rescue tools. An additional slide-out Hydraulic Tool Module will include the Hurst jaws-of-life, the cutters, and Hurst hydraulic ram. A slide-out tray will offer all the hydraulic auxiliary equipment such as the ram extensions, porta-power, support plates, etc.

In addition there is a Pneumatic Module with it's own electric air compressor and hydraulic tools such as a saw, impact chisel, half inch impact wrench, etc.. A Stabilization Module will include high lift jacks, a come-along, hydraulic jacks, nylon slings, and four 20 foot chains. There is a rope rescue module, a Water Rescue Module, and Hazmat Supply Module that includes a spill kit, absorbents, and other supplies.

The Rescue Trailer will also carry two chain saws, road cones, flares,
